Ramjas Protest: What happened When?





Ramjas College and Delhi University today witnessed everything belonging to the Indian Politics today. From the Slogans to Barricades to fights to police taking over the control. A lot has happened in past two days. Delhi University's North Campus is on a verge of becoming the centre of Indian politics, which politicians would like to capitalise in order to fulfil their political goals and aspirations as have been seen in cases of JNU, Rohith Vemula and others.

Slogans like "Breach of freedom of expression" was raised by the students of Delhi University. Many professors and students leaders were seen in the protest. 

Here are the minutes of what happened when:

Tuesday:
Ramjas College was to host a two-day event, starting Tuesday, where the two leaders, Umar Khalid and Shehla Rasheed, from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, were invited.

The event was disrupted by supporters of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) before even Khalid entered the campus.

Khalid was invited by the Literary society of Ramjas to speak on his PhD, The war in Adivasi Areas.

Khalid, a former member of ultra-radical Democratic Students Union (DSU), was arrested last year on the charges of sedition for his role in organising a rally in JNU to commemorate the anniversary to of the execution of 2001 parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru.

Wednesday:
2.40pm: AISA and SFI led students continued to march towards Maurice Nagar Police Station, shouting slogans against ABVP.

2.42pm: March was stopped by police at Daulat Ram College gate.

2.45pm: The protestor start moving again.

2.47pm: ABVP members tries to enter from the other side and disrupts the protests

2.54pm: Delhi Police gave a statement that the protestors have been separated and no political party has filed any report.

3.00pm: The march resumed, police forms a human chain with ABVP on one side and protestors on the other.

3.02pm: DU's English Department Faculty member arrested and was taken to the hospital.

3.08pm: Students carry bags and files on their heads in order to protect themselves from beating up.

3.09pm: Satinder Awana, president of DUSU, gives a statement, "We cannot allow anti-nationals to speak on the campus. Only ordinary students are protesting against anti-nationals." Another student named Burhan was taken to the hospital.

3.11pm: Delhi Police gives a statement that case is registered and the protestors were detained.

3.18pm: Delhi Police asks shopkeepers around Patel chest to close down

3.20pm: Protests begin at Maurice Nagar Police station

3.22pm: ABVP members sit outside Maurice Nagar police station blocking the entry for others students who want to go inside to lodge a complaint against them.

3.34pm: Police barricades the area, segregating the protesting students from ABVP members.

3.40pm: Kawalpreet Kaur, the AISA presidential candidate for 2016 DUSU elections, addresses the students outside the police station.

3.45pm: Kawalpreet Kaur claims to lodge a complaint against ABVP.

3.55pm: Protesting students are a mix of AISA, SFI and other non-affiliated colleges joined at Maurice Nagar Police station

4 pm: Kawalpreet Kaur concludes the address to the students. Other student leaders address the crowd

4.49 pm: Around 100 cops in riot gear deployed to maintain law and order outside the Maurice Nagar police station where students continue to shout slogans.

4.30 pm: Police stand outside the gate of Ramjas college, not letting anyone in. Some of the students and teachers are holed up inside

Students are requested to stay inside their hostels and PGs. The next day is expected to be distressed. A lot is expected to happen tomorrow.
