Miranda House's Students Union has officially called of Tempest'17

Tempest'17, the annual cultural fest of Miranda House has been officially been called off. This comes as a result of the construction work being done inside college premises.

Earlier it was reported as the college fest would be held at Polo Grounds, North Campus on 25th and 26th later this month. However, the reports were declined by the post on Tempest'17 official Facebook account apologizing and officially declaring that Tempest'17 would not be held.

This year, Miranda House has been in news for one or the other reason. First the selfie ban issue and then the news related to tempest.

Tempest is known for the stars that attend the college fiesta. Last year the stars that came to Tempest were Shakti Mohan and Neeti Mohan.

Miranda House: Tempest to be organized in University Grounds

Tempest is the college fest of Miranda House, organised every year by the students union in college grounds. However, this year no longer it would be organised inside the college.

Tempest: Return of The Storm is most loved college fest on Delhi University. Miranda House being an all girls college, attracts a large number of crowd. Students mostly from the first year, who haven't been to any girls college before sees colleges like Miranda House and fests like Tempest to witness an all girls college.

Miranda House is under construction as it is expanding its limits. Earlier The Hindu, in a press release, reported a list of colleges undergoing construction and Miranda House is one of those colleges. It is expanding its library as well as a faculty lounge is built for the outstation teachers.

"Ground is all covered with mud and iron pillars. The college union has finished the talks with the Principal and University Ground has been finalised for organising of the event. It would require more perseverance and the more organised team as things can't be taken for granted as some of them can be in our college. We are excited to be a host for the amazing crowd as we have always been since the past few years" said Satakshi Agarwal, who was one of the volunteers in Tempest'16.

However, the good news the fest will be happening. Despite all the construction being carried out in the college ground, the event will be happening and college union is getting prepared to make this fest worth remembering.

Miranda House recieved notice from DCW over college ban

Miranda House, all girls college of Delhi University, has banned its students from taking selfies and combing their hairs inside the college. This is one of a hilarious ban any college of Delhi University has ever faced.

Delhi University has known for the openness and the freedom its students has over the issues and in the college. This is one of the major reasons why students chose Delhi University over any other college.

Interestingly, Miranda House administration gave a notice to 1200 distance learning students, who attends college on weekends and other public holidays, stating that who so ever is found wasting time in clicking pictures and selfies would be suspended for a day by the administration.

The KYS (Krantikari Yuva Sangathan) has taken this matter seriously and is opposing the issue ever since. They were approached by the girls of School of Open Learning and they registered a complaint with The Delhi Commission for Women, post which a notice has been issued by the college.

"Most of the girls spend time taking selfies and combing their hair in the class, by which the teachers are not able to teach properly in the class. Also, students stand in corridors doing nothing but taking time for themselves and combing hair." said philosophy hons second-year student.

The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice terming the act of college as 'misogynistic'. The notice comes after several girls from the college approached the commission over the selfie ban. "We have asked for a point-wise reply from the college on students' complaint within several days," a DCW senior official said.
